New Research Shows That Black Men Are More Involved Than Any Other Race
Written by Andreal Mallard #EliminateTheStereotype
Ever since slavery, black men have been stereotyped as deadbeats dads and piss poor husbands. We've been fed the narrative that black men don't face life head on and run from their problems. Why is it that black men seem to have no allies when it comes to being seen in a positive light nor get the respect they deserve when they are stand up guys? Out of 10 black men i know personally, maybe 1 of them dont take take care of their kids and don't live up to the standard of taking care of their family. So now, the question is, who and why was the narrative created that black men are sorry? Why did the media create such a negative light on a gender and a race/color of an individual?
Well unless your running a football up and down the field or pushing a basketball up and down the court, black men in America aren't celebrated as they should be. Most of us were raised by beautiful and smart black women and some even had dad in the home to be an example of what a man is supposed to be, so why is it that we are painted in a dark demonic way? Could it be that the oppressor still sees us as 3/5 of a person or is this a narrative pushed to our women and children to turn them away from us?
There are many successful black men who go to work everyday, own a business, or are blessed with a skill set to survive and be providers yet these common men get labeled harshly when the media gets one who sells drugs, commit a crime or simply doesnt do the right thing. Its like if they can make an example out of one it's a one size fits all solution to all black men. Because of these stereotypes many have harder times getting funded by banks to start or maintain a business and often disqualified from access to normal living habits of basic everyday life.
Recently I had the pleasure of attending a father daughter dance, as a matter of fact i attended two and black men were in attendance with their child in abundance and i had to ask myself who came up with that narrative that black men aren't active Father's, husbands or family men? It baffled me because another black man asked me the same question.. my answer was "The Media". Yes told through the Tell Lie Vision. The media is the most prominent source of creating this narrative thru music and entertainment. It's everyday pushed like heroin in a needle until you can't get enough of it. In most cases, they use other black men as tools to help shape their story. Its almost like house nigga vs field nigga syndrome separating us from within.
Even Tyler Perry had to dress up like a woman to get through the gates of success and create stories with high volumes of homosexuality while praising black women in the process. The recent cover of Ebony magazine showed Johnathan Majors in a more flamboyant nature with a curve of feminine touch to paint their picture. This now seems to be becoming a cash cow game because most of hollywood is selling it and our loved ones are the buyers. They say a lie travels faster than the truth and thru airwaves and mass communication the objective is crystal clear. Now we are even at the point where they dont have to do it it to us. They've made some of us comfortable with doing it to ourselves. No, I'm not saying all black men are no good or all are good men. However, i am saying that it's more about the individual and the content of character that should matter the most, not the agenda.
